BANNOCKBURN

Among the North Shore’s most desirable and exclusive communities, the village of Bannockburn, with its winding roads and private estates, serves as the quintessential garden suburb and remains one of the premier markets for luxury real estate. Located twenty-seven miles north of the Loop and nineteen miles from O’Hare, Bannockburn is the ideal retreat for anyone desiring a prestigious home in a tranquil setting.

Residential

Primarily residential, zoning and service provisions have helped to prevent overdevelopment, the likes of which have been witnessed by many other
North Shore communities. The village is also home to very few commercial properties, and maintains a two acre lot requirement for private residences. In fact, privacy is one of Bannockburn’s most cherished qualities.

Dubbed the North Shore’s “best-kept secret”, it is no wonder such notable residents as Mike Ditka and Phil Johnson have chosen to call Bannockburn home. Bannockburn boasts beautiful homes of distinction in a serene setting, and the result: a peaceful refuge where residents enjoy quiet living.

Are You a Member?

Bannockburn was established in 1924 by developer William Aitken, who created the settlement with the intention of making it an exclusive community for members of his bridge club and country club. Bannockburn remains an exclusive community, priding itself on privacy and residences of distinction.

Commercial

Though Bannockburn is almost exclusively residential, there are a few corporate parks that reside on the northern edge of the village, which have no essential no impact on the residential community other than some help supplementing the tax base. Additionally, there are a few thoroughfares with shops providing various amenities, but residents of Bannockburn typically do not come for the shopping, they come for the retreat.

The Schools

Bannockburn Elementary School, serving grades kindergarten through eighth, stands as one of the North Shore’s premier primary schools. With small class sizes, a multi-tiered curriculum catering to every type of student, and student support that should be the standard for all schools, Bannockburn Elementary is reason enough for most families moving to the area. Moreover, secondary students attend neighboring Deerfield High School. Deerfield High, with an enrollment of 1,800 and an exceptional average ACT score of 25.6, stands as a model school for academic excellence and diverse offerings for every student level.

The Parks

In addition to sharing a high school, residents of Bannockburn also share the much lauded parks district of neighboring Deerfield (for a small annual fee). With twenty-one parks and
playgrounds, two public swimming pools, tennis courts, a public golf course, and a number of playing fields, basketball courts, and running tracks, and one large community center, Deerfield offers plenty of recreational opportunities just minutes away. The park district also offers an impressive variety of classes and programs for people of all ages, a service also extended to Bannockburn residents.
