BUFFALO GROVE

Community Site

Included among the 1992 list of “50 Fabulous Places to Raise Your Kids” by a book of the same title, Buffalo Grove is a warm and welcoming community of tree-lined streets, well-maintained homes, and neighbors who take pride in their small-town spirit. It is also among the neighboring North Shore suburbs that have witnessed the most growth in recent years. Started as melting pot of a few New England pioneers and immigrant laborers, the village of Buffalo Grove has since grown in leaps and bounds, resulting in a thriving community that has maintained its country atmosphere and its easy access to the cultural, entertainment, and business centers of Chicago.

Residential

Due to the enormous growth experienced by the village of Buffalo Grove, the real estate market reflects a diverse mix of homes. From affordable ranch to custom homes on expansive lots, housing in Buffalo Grove is as diverse as the residents who choose to call it home.

The village has not only witnessed tremendous growth in its residential population, but also in its commerce. Examples include the Buffalo Grove Commerce Center, the Corporate Grove industrial park, the Arbor Creek Business Centre, and the Covington Corporate Center. Of special notes, District 96 includes four elementary schools, Country Meadows, Ivy Hall, Kildeer, and Prairie (three of which were named among Illinois’ top fifty elementary schools). High School students attend one of three of the area high schools, Buffalo Grove High School and Wheeling High School in Cook County, and Stevenson High School in Lake County. All three of these high schools have been awarded the Blue Ribbon Award for Excellence in Education by the U.S. Department of Education.
