KENILWORTH

Located a mere sixteen miles from the Loop, Kenilworth is the smallest
and most affluent of the North Shore communities. Nestled on Lake Michigan,
Kenilworth is the product of planner Joseph Sears, who believed streets
should be platted to maximize the availability of sunlight in each home,
utilities should be hidden underground, and no fences or alleys allowed.
His legacy is high construction standards and an appreciation for both
building and landscape architecture. The result: arguably the North Shore’s
most distinguished community.
Residential
In keeping with its reputation for luxury and exclusivity, Kenilworth
residences resonate opulence. Kenilworth has the largest collection of
buildings by George W. Maher, a contemporary of Frank Lloyd Wright. Maher
lived in Kenilworth and saw nearly forty of his designs constructed between
1893 and 1926. Palatial estates set on sweeping grounds easily establish
the magnificence that connotes the name Kenilworth.
Commercial
Due to its smaller size, most Kenilworth residents live
within one mile of its village shops, train station, highly regarded schools,
and beautiful beach. Commercial development has been limited in the interest
of maintaining the perfection of this suburban paradise, with businesses
found only on Green Bay Road.
