LONG GROVE

Toted as “a little town that time forgot”, the village of Long Grove is a charming community that has maintained its bucolic beginnings and prevented the penetration of suburban sprawl experienced by so many of its neighbors. Though large in land size, Long Grove’s population is relatively small, resulting in acres of open space and unadulterated land.

Residential

The commitment to preserving open spaces includes the private residences of Long Grove, with a land requirement of one acre or more (and most are much more). Such expansive properties result in yet additional sources of pride for Long Grove residents: privacy and tranquility.

Commercial

Though strict referendums have been passed to limit the development of convenient stores, chains, and neon signs, the village’s primary commerce attracts hundreds of visitors daily: the antique trade. Numerous shops tucked away throughout Long Grove reflect the community’s clandestine character and commitment to preserving their cherished history.

The Schools

The Times Are Not A’ Changing

In more concentrated efforts to maintain Long Grove’s historical integrity, an ordinance passed in 1958 requires that any and all new businesses must feature facades akin to the style of the 1880s.

Among the various school districts serving the Long Grove community, the Kildeer Countryside School District 96, the Diamond Lake School District 76, and highly acclaimed Stevenson High School and Mundelein High School are exceptional educational institutions that are consistently recognized for their successes.

The Parks

Priding themselves on preserving natural spaces without taxation, the Long Grove Park District owns over 450 acres of wetlands and woodlands with opportunities including the exploration of unique plant and wildlife habitats, to more traditional recreational facilities and programs.
