METTAWA
Located thirty-five miles from the Loop, Mettawa has been described
as “an island of natural serenity surrounded by a sea of development.”
Regarded as one of Illinois’ most affluent communities, Mettawa
is also strictly residential as it is bounded by the Old School Forest
Preserve on the north, the Captain Daniel Wright Forest Preserve on the
south, and the Des Plaines River Trail on the west. Clearly a nature lover’s
retreat, Mettawa is also a horse owner’s paradise as open spaces
and expansive estates mark this distinguished community.
Residential
Given the privileged circumstances of its residents, it should come as
no surprise that the residences of Mettawa reflect the luxurious lifestyles
of its inhabitants. In fact, many of its fabulous contemporary and ultra-modern
homes have been featured in architectural magazines.
The Schools
Several school districts serve students from Mettawa: Libertyville Elementary
School District #70, Rondout Elementary School District #72, Hawthorn
Elementary School District #73, and Lincolnshire-Prairie View Elementary
School District #103. High school students from Mettawa attend Adlai E.
Stevenson High School District #125 or Libertyville High School District
#128. Stevenson High School, most notably, is the only school in Illinois
to receive four Blue Ribbon Awards by the U.S. Department of Education
and Newsweek and U.S. News and World Report have consistently ranked Stevenson
among the top 100 high schools in America. |
