The Schools
How Far We’ve Come
During the early years, the village hall and police headquarters
were located in the lobby of a local motel and, until 1971,
most official business was conducted in the home of the village
clerk when trustees purchased two portable buildings that
were located on Oakwood Road.

Given the wealth of families choosing to call Vernon Hills homes,
it should come as no surprise that the school districts servicing
the community are held in high regard. Elementary districts include
Diamond Lake District 76, Hawthorn School District 73, Lincolnshire/Prairie
View District 103, and Kildeer/Countryside District 96. High school
students attend either Libertyville High School, Vernon Hills High
School, Mundelein High School, or the nationally recognized Stevenson
High School.
The Parks
Encompassing 315 acres of park land, which includes a community
center, fourteen ball fields, seven picnic shelters, ten playgrounds,
multi-use athletic fields, three outdoor skating rinks, and a sled
hill. The village also provides a nine hole golf course, eight tennis
courts, and a new aquatic center featuring a zero-depth pool and
sand play area. Finally, a recent addition to the community is the
Arbor Theater, a stunning outdoor theater surrounded by lush gardens.
