WILMETTE

Located fifteen miles north of the Loop and just short of suburban perfection, the town of Wilmette is a progressive community of more than twenty-five thousand residents, innumerable homes of distinction, and one incomparable point of interest: Gilson Park. From its beautiful lakefront to its historically preserved brick streets and old fashioned street lights, Wilmette consistently reflects the ideal community that has become synonymous with North Shore living.

Residential

Though it is obvious why the Wilmette Historic Preservation Commission has much to take pride in as one tours this architecturally rich community, the private residences of Wilmette are also worthy of recognition. Lakefront homes are among the most impressive (and expensive),
with styles including stately Victorians, Tudors, and Colonials, while central and western Wilmette offers everything from Colonials and split-levels, to
ranch homes and bungalows. For 2005, the average sale price for a home in Wilmette was $879,980.

Commercial

From the inviting small-town atmosphere of Wilmette's Village Center to Green Bay Road, residents and visitors alike enjoy its myriad shopping
options. Wilmette also features the neighborhood retail district of 4th & Linden, the architectural beauty of Plaza del Lago (the North Shore's oldest shopping center, which runs along Lake Michigan) the Ridge Road Corridor and the Skokie Boulevard Corridor, home of the North Shore's premier nursery and garden center.

The Schools

In addition to its numerous architectural wonders, Wilmette is also home to the famed Baha'i House of Worship. With its filigree dome and exquisite gardens and fountains, the Baha'i House of Worship was the first of its kind to be constructed in the Western Hemisphere, and attracts over 250,000 visitors annually from every part of the globe.

Elementary students of Wilmette are serviced by one of three school districts: Avoca District 37, Kenilworth District 38, and Wilmette District 39. High School students attend the highly acclaimed New Trier High School that has been recognized for its exceedingly high test scores and impressive rate of graduating students enrolling in college (98%).

The Parks

With eighteen lush public parks laid out on over 300 acres of land, scenic lakefront jogging and biking trails, an outdoor amphitheater, and two popular golf courses, Wilmette certainly attracts residents who appreciate the beauty of the outdoors. Most notably, Gilson Park, which features a magnificent swimming beach and outdoor summer theater, a yacht harbor and outdoor pool all on over sixty acres of land, is arguably Wilmette’s most popular point of interest.
